STREET STYLE: Ascendance, LIBRA

Ascendance is without exception, the space to be at month after month. Led by Sol Galeano, DJ Chinua, Prck, Gypsi, and Aaron Sarles, these five artists are creating a space of movement and expression for the different communities that inhabit the city of New Orleans.

Ascendance is a space for queer people of color, to find, to feel, and be radically themselves and a musical safe haven for the artists and DJs of the city who grace Ascendance parties. Following the zodiac of every month, we attended the celebration of Ascendance Libra Season at Cafe Istanbul on October 15, 2022, to capture the grace and beauty of the community that attends Ascendance. DJ C’est Funk played a set of Brazilian Funk and Latin American deep cuts that left the room glowing accompanied by live percussionists Filipe Leite and Joe Lyle.
